Friday night and a 3-day weekend looms.
Jane thinks something might possibly get crossed off the Unfinished Projects List.
Hmmm…. there’s so much to choose from.
The door paint for sure. Maybe even the bathroom mirror.
But Homer jumps in and declares the family room to be the winner.
But wait! This is Jane’s resolution.
Well dang, if it keeps him from cooking all weekend…
Pre-weekend project status: Walls of large basement room were textured 5 years ago in an attempt to cover up ugly paneling without having to endure the mess of demo and sheetrocking. Well, all except for half of one wall, which contains a cabinet. Jane could never get an answer out of Homer as to whether the cabinet could be removed so project was abandoned.
So.... three-day weekend begins.
Homer agrees to cabinet removal.
Cabinet is emptied of 64 different empty mini bottles, lots of stupid junk and one glittery Las Vegas clock with dice for numbers.
Cabinet is removed and discussion begins about how to patch the vent hole from the old furnace.
Talk turns to installing a new heat vent – in different location - and a cold air return.
And moving an outlet and a switch.
All of which would be much easier if the paneling was torn out.
Which it is.
Jane snaps up the electrical and drywall contracts; Homer’s all over the HVAC.
Post- weekend Project Status: Half of one wall STILL needs to be texturized. The rest of the walls need to be RE-texturized into more of a stucco-like effect, and then repainted, the door trim and baseboards are to be replaced with ‘knotty alder’ wood, the window sills redone with travertine stone, the lights replaced with not track OR can lighting, but BOTH track and cans and SOMEWHERE out there probably exists the perfect vent and switchplate covers. But we have yet to find them.
Project moved from Almost Complete to Barely Started status.
You are probably thinking about moving Jane from Partially Crazy to Fuggin-Nuts status but she thinks that it’s best to give Homer design freedom in this manly, big-screen tv area rather than other, more public rooms.
Hopefully all will survive to test that theory.

So, would that be, 'one step forward, two steps back', or 'two steps forward, one step back'?
Let's just call it "redirected".
-->Good luck getting him motivated. Can you promise to be beer b!tch for super bowl if it gets finished by then?

I have found the perfect combination between hiring a contractor and having my husband tackle the project. We just had our floors replaced, and my husband did the demo and then the contractors installed the new floor. Lesson learned...husbands are good at demo.
you have to own your on company like we do, then I just call up the boys and say "George started this project- come over and finish it. Works evey time. Shall I send them over?"
It always looks worse before it looks better ..; Does that help?!
This doesn't sound fun at all. Not one bit. But good luck with it all anyway!
Yes, the toilet got sucked out too LOL and trust me I could find countless ways to spend $90111
Sweet Lord. Are you sure Salty and Homer aren't the same man? I've been living in shambles for months and it definitely in PUBLIC AREAS!
He sounds remarkably like my husband. . .is he - by chance - an engineer???
Glittery dice clock!
Feel your pain. Took over a YEAR to get the backdoor replaced from a break-in. Had to look at wood nailed over the old glass pane waiting for the new door to be painted! argh! (Call a handyman.)
Are you telling him it's is Man Cave? Because that's how I got my bathroom finished.
Could you not have just thrown a blanket over the cabinet and called it a day? I saw that once on HGTV. I think the show was called "Decorating for the Very Lazy" or something.
PS You have to claim your trophy still.
WoW! Way to move backwards there Jane!
Yeah ... the laundry room my dad just HAD to do after 35 years was finally finished after like eighteen months. It actually didn't turn out too badly as long as you didn't look too closely. Then he got a wild hair to paint it the same hideous semi-neon blue color (including the ceiling) that he painted the downstairs bathroom.
Not living there any more helps a lot but every time I go over there I wince at the new home improvement project he has created for the next owners of their house.
Hugs, Dahling!
I don't know how you stay sane! I guess I should be very happy I don't have a partner who starts projects and leaves them unfinished. Hope you come to some resolution!
Peace
