Jane! is Hopeful

It was a crazy weekend in which I sunk only deeper into the project mire but today it all seems fairly insignificant compared to what is going on in Washington DC. I'm trying to soak up as much of this monumentous occasion as possible.

I'll be back tomorrow.
But tell me, how do you feel today?

Hopeful... cautiously so. Expectations are so high. The need is so great.

Fingers are crossed.

Hopefully this will be the beginning of something promising.

Guardedly optomistic? I'm with Diane - the expectations are so high...

Just like every thing else with teh political presidential race. I'm sick to death of it!

Excited, but also wary.

I am excited. We are watching history being made today even if we don't all agree with the choice of president. It will take some time for us to see changes happen but I think gradually we will. I just wish I could be at home watching it all unfold instead of at work

I feel like a victim of the "economic downturn". Hubby got laid off yesterday.

I'm looking for this new time to be a life line when I need it the most. I hope I am not disappointed.

PROUD. A part of history in action. Years down the road when people ask where I was I will remember this day along with countless others including but not limited to, the end of the V war, Elvis' death, the Challenger exploding, 9-11 and now this, the first black President of the United States. PROUD.

Seriously hoping the world doesn't end in 10 days.

Other than that, curious...

I was very proud. I was listening. I heard. I watched and I'm in the minority with where I work. I am hopeful. I want this to be a GREAT four years. Barack and Michelle obviously love each other. They both have a love of the same country I live in. I am PROUD to be an American.

I'm still scared sh*tless from watching Nostradamus 2012 the other night on the history channel. Sheesh.

On the local news tonight they interviewed a 103-year-old black lady. She voted for Obama in November. They asked what they thought about today's festivities. With watery eyes she said, "I never thought I'd live long enough to see anything like this." Then she put her elbow on the arm of her wheelchair and her hand on the side of her head, and spoke lowly, "I never thought I would." In her face I saw what I had been wondering all day... How would it FEEL to be black, to have lived through the civil rights movement, not too much removed from being owned by someone else, to remember being granted the right to vote, and watch a black man be sworn in as the most powerful leader in the free world? It's almost too much to take in.

The Rev Joseph Lowery's prayer summed it up. Everyone will be so happy if whites will just "embrace what is right". Yes, I am happy for America and for the obvious strides we have made. But, sadly it would seem from the media prospective and popular culture it is still all about race.
