Not just a river in Egypt

Last week I got an email from a friend that I hadn't seen in over a year. Our kids were tight in elementary school but then drifted off to different junior high and high schools. Although we both work for the same very large organization, we both lead crazy, but parallel lives and though we often talk about doing lunch... it just doesn't happen.

In her email she was lamenting the fact that she just turned 50 and how everything that hasn't dropped or fallen off, is now wrinkled. She's 6 months younger than I am and I was thinking 'How sad for her to have hit the aging skids like that!'.
Kind of smug, I was... feeling pretty good about my mental age of like 30ish (shush you!) and my physical age of... refuse-to-think-about-it.

Then I ran into her yesterday and during out brief chat I gave her the once over, but I really didn't see one bit of difference from the last time I saw her. And I for sure didn't see anything that screamed 50! Well, except for her less than perky chest... but I think we can blame a history of breastfeeding 2-1/2 year-olds for that!

Yeah, so except for the breast thing, I think we look pretty similar... which makes me realize that either she was she totally fishing for compliments or I am in complete denial.

So... I see now that I have no choice.
Next time I see her I will have to let her know how fabulous she looks.

I would say she was fishing for compliments. *nodding head for emphasis* If she looked that good to you but she lamented that much then she was DYING to see how you held up and to hear you say, "Oh MY GAWD, you look amazing! How DO you do it??"

Love the wallet. Note to self, Check out Target!!

Your Barbie's are just amazing. Having an older brother, none of mine survived childhood with their head and/or appendages intact!

I thought our lives were so different, but I'm beginning to see so many parralels. Laundry drop-off, Hubbies who like to make magnificent messes in the kitchen, retail wrangles with over-eager salespeople, and even the "things I need to do for myself but can's seem to pencil in" issues.

No wonder I love reading your blog so much!

Happy Hump Day, Jane!

The NO comment was for Thystle... SDmomma slipped in there.

ugh....fishing for compliments

btw...my 17 year old read your blog about poor Homer going skiing instead of fixing the door. He wanted me to let you know that it's not safe to go skiing alone and that he's willing to come and be Homer's ski buddy. (he also mentioned that omega is MORE than welcome to be HIS ski buddy....lol)

Nah, she wasn't fishing for a compliment, some of us just bitch for the satisfaction of hearing ourselves bitch...

And no, you don't have to compliment her next time you see her, that leaves it open for her to just say thank you and not compiment you back. That could be very detrimental to your self esteem. (did I spell that right, damn don't want to go look it up...)

Most definitely fishing & totally jealous of your own unaged awesomeness (can I have cookies now?)

Oh yeah, she was fishing. And hoping you would say you looked awful so she could feel smug. Not that I've ever done anything like that...

Totally fishing for compliments, whether she realizes it or not. Or course when I do it (which is all the time - I totally suck, by the way) I am not fishing. Did I tell you that I'm old and fat? And that my blog is lame? And I hate my hair? And nobody likes me?

So not fishing.

Well if my opinion counts for anything I think you look amazing whether she does or not! ;)

Um...did someone mention cookies?

Fishing. I hope I look as good at you as 50. Hell, I wish I looked as good as you now. Sigh.

And no, I wasn't fishing.

It's a tough bd for some people to handle. I still consider myself as celebrating anniversaries of my 49th bd.

How does one defrag? Does it involve dark chocolate or cheesecake? I'm so fragged that it is hard to even enjoy Bella today!

Please let me know your secret.......hugs, g

Yes and you should give her the compliment or the atta girl.

I've lost nearly 20 pounds and buffed up my legs. Not one person has said anything to me.

But Roy. And honestly, He just wants laid. So he doesn't count.
But from the friends....are just jealous or can they not tell...OMG!!
Was I that fat???
I need drink.

A little vintage Boones Farm works anytime I need to get in the river. Amazing what it can do for those denying their 50's. It'll pertnear perk up the long gones making them look and feel again like a 20 or 30 something.
I hope this helps Jane and if it doesn't just remember a fine Boones Farm only improves with age.
Affectionately yours,
j

YOUR awesomeness shows through, whether your friend thinks that about herself or not. Maybe she doesn't have all these blog friends telling her what a beautiful creature she is. Everyone needs a bit of boosting up at some point. A very supportive bra does wonders for the chest! (That wasn't the kind of boosting I meant at first, but it fits)

Oh do tell her she looks awesome. I am quickly approaching the land of 50 myself and do NOT want to move off Denial Avenue just yet.
