What I'm pretty sure CNN won't touch on

I watched (most of) the President addressing congress last night. I had all kinds of intent to really follow what President Obama was saying but I gotta tell you it was kind of hard to focus.... because everything was SO in focus.

First of all, HDTV might be overkill when you have hearing issues and sit 2 feet in front of a 42" screen. I had no idea that capital hill was so rife with age spots and quite many other unidentifiable poxy type facial things. Hey, don't judge. I've been watching analog, broadcast tv all these years and thought politicians were better with makeup. Like Michelle Obama who incidentally, looked FLAWLESS.

Then Nancy Pelosi, who was seated behind the Prez, had an incessant lip worrying thing going. And if she thinks that burp went unnoticed she is SO wrong. Or her multiple, abandoned attempts to follow along in her speech copy.

Didn't the people in the background used to be out of focus?

The official tie of the 2009 US Congress appears to be the tiny print tie in pastel colors. With the white shirt and very dark suit, of course. For the men, that is. I wonder if they call each other and coordinate. Or maybe an email goes out: 'Guys, we're going with the tiny, non-descript print this year. Please avoid all appearance of stripe, design, cartoon characters or subliminal pleas for campaign funds.' Barack set himself apart by wearing a red and white striped tie which looked quite snappy.

The women were dressed more diversely. Hilary's suit looked very Stately (and she was having one of the best hair nights ever). I saw one woman with cool spikey, multi-colored hair and I think, a brightly colored suit. Two thumbs up on her outfit.

Nancy.... well, I think the best thing I can say about her outfit is that it made her boobs look huge but that's probably not the look she was going for. But Michelle Obama was wearing the MOST AWESOME purple dress. Forget the economy, Barack, we want you to spill the beans on your wife's upper body workout. I would personally give my left kidney for arms like hers.

And Joe Biden? I think he might take the award for hottest guy over 55. Doesn't he just look like he'd be lots of fun at a party?

Don't get me wrong, I know it was an important speech and I did listen and grasp most of it because it came from a man that I can understand, but I imagine there will be enough serious discussion of the issues elsewhere today.
So did you watch the speech?
Any non-political observations to share?

Using the words, Joe Biden and hot, in the same sentence may cause the reader to turn to stone!

LOL! I was watching on HGTV and was sooo trying to focus, but then I got distracted my Pelosi's smile. I felt like she was in on a joke that I wasn't.

I got so overwhelmed by the color and clarity that I fell asleep half way through.

I wanted to watch the speech, but it was a new "Dirty Jobs."

Can't say no to Mike Rowe.

And yes, I totally agree with you. I bet Biden looks fantastic wearing a lamp shade.

The only part that I really watched was at the beginning with the introductions. And that one lady judge. I know she had just gotten out of the hospital after some major surgery, but she looked slighly. I don't know, confused. With this big horse tooth smile on her face. That's really the only part I got to see.

Nancy Pelosi has always distracted me. I just am bothered by her - I'm not even sure why. And yes, I can be shallow like that.

I did not watch it. IFC had something on about sex in films.

That's why I can't watch our over-sized-flat-screen-HDTV!!!

It's almost as big as the room it's in and it gives me motion sickness to watch it!!!

I went out drinking instead . . . motion sickness of another kind. . .

I have to agree with you about Biden... I think the guy's got it goin' on. In fact, I think this is, by far, the BEST looking White House in the history of the US. And that, of course, is what matters!

Loved the lady with the spiky hair and the snazzy suit.
Quit counting at 22 ladies in red.
Did not bother to count number of people with white hair.
Thought that Michelle was either a giant or that the teeny lady next to her was excptionally short.
The teeny lady was actually a schoolgirl who had written Obama a letter. Oh. OK.
Good speech too. Crossing fingers that wer'e going to get through the crunch.

Hahahahaha! So funny! You're so right - I still have my little low def TV and I like not seeing everyone's pores! Great post!

I suppose if I actually turned the the TV to a channel other than Disney or Nickelodeon before 8 PM I might actually be aware of these programs...but as it is, I never know what's on till the kids are in bed and even then it's usually straight to the DVR. Shame on me, I know!

I like what Eudea-Mamia said...DAMN I missed that TOO! Guess it's time to program Mike R into the DVR ;)

Yep, I watched it. Sort of had to since my husband is a tax lobbyist and needed to hear what Obama had to say about certain things. What I loved was that little girl sandwich when Michelle hugged the mother of that girl who wrote the letter to Congress. Poor girl was caught between her mom and the First Lady.

Biden smiles like he knows what everybody looks like nekkid. Which would definitely make him a "yes" for fun at a party. Of course, "W" always struck me as a probable fun partier. He's a funny guy, very likeable when his finger isn't on the red button.
